ALEXANDRA FOUCARD
![]() Where do you live (City, State, or Country)?
Brooklyn, New York Your script or media entry stood out among hundreds of others. What was the inspiration for your project ? The inspiration for the project came from the character, Zandra Seagraves, in Dan Jolley's book The Storm. Zandra Seagraves is an intelligent, fearless protagonist, and an African-American Sheriff guided by her morals and compassion as she deals with the bigoted residents of her rural town. The Storm is a story that needs to be on screen. How long did it take you to write your script...and what was your development process? Dan had written an initial draft of The Storm back in 2019, but our collaboration began after we met at an author fest in Atlanta in 2023. When he shared the premise of the story, I was immediately captivated by the characters and the narrative. I wasted no time asking if I could option The Storm and if he’d be open to collaborating with me on the script. Maintaining the integrity of the book was essential, but it was equally important to incorporate my voice into the screenplay. Over the course of a year, Dan and I worked together, blending our writing styles to complement each other and bring this powerful story to life. Which film directors or screenwriters inspire you? Why? I draw inspiration from many directors and screenwriters for various reasons, but a few standouts come to mind. Screenwriter and director Gina Prince-Bythewood shines for her focus on character-driven stories, which make her a truly remarkable filmmaker. Juel Taylor’s innovative and cutting-edge style in They Cloned Tyrone, blending 70s Blaxploitation with sci-fi, is nothing short of brilliant. Regina King stands out for her incredible ability to elevate every project she directs, bringing out the best in her actors and showcasing impeccable attention to detail in all her work. What’s your all-time favorite movie or television show? This is a tough question to answer—I have an eclectic taste in film and television. Currently, I’m obsessed with AMC+’s series Interview with the Vampire. One of my all time favorite films is Lars and The Real Girl. What advice do you have for others hoping to win a contest or place as a finalist as you have? Be inspired by what ignites your passion and let that fuel your writing. What else are you working on that the world needs to know about? Queendom PI is a comedic episodic about four female private investigators who will do whatever it takes to solve the toughest cases while fighting hot flashes and assailants in New York City. A melanated And Just Like That meets Charlie’s Angels and Mission Impossible - Never too hot to solve a cold case. The Slope, a modern Downton Abbey. Set in an upscale Brooklyn neighborhood, The Slope series offers a sharp, darkly comedic look at the lives of four stay-at-home moms and the nannies they depend on. Balancing cultural differences, impossible expectations, and their own ambitions, these nannies are far more than caretakers. As the moms face their own struggles with identity, community, and each other. The Slope peels back the layers of a privileged world to reveal a story that’s as biting as it is heartfelt. The Quantum a crypto sci-fi film set in a dystopian New York City, where neighborhoods are confined to buildings due to poor air quality. When infiltrators invade the Quantum to kidnap their leader, Ram Dass—who holds the secret to their vibrancy—the residents spring into action to stop the would-be kidnappers.
