Where do you live (City, State, or Country)? Louisville, Kentucky
Your script or media entry stood out among hundreds of others. What was the inspiration for your project? As an assistant track coach at our local high school, I was first introduced to Unified Sports, which is a program that combines an approximately equal number of Special Olympics athletes with able-bodied partners without intellectual disabilities to compete in several running and field events at our area track meets. These physically and emotionally challenged athletes inspired me so much by their will and tenacity to compete I created the uplifting family feature, UNIFIED.
How long did it take you to write your script or produce your pitch deck/sizzle reel/trailer...and what was your development process? Once I had the premise for the story, I spent almost a year going through multiple drafts and edits until it felt right. My pitch deck for UNIFIED took a couple of weeks.
What is your ultimate ambition as a writer or filmmaker? Being able to share my stories through the mediums of television and film would be very gratifying.
Which film directors or screenwriters inspire you? Why? A few of my favorite film directors would be Ron Howard, David Anspaugh, and Garry Marshall. To me, a great director places me in the middle of each scene so that I can hear, feel, and experience the pulse of that film.
What’s your all-time favorite movie or television show? Impossible to pick, but I loved Hoosiers, A Walk to Remember, Men in Black, etc…
What advice do you have for others hoping to win a contest or place as a finalist as you have? Create and formulate a story that only you can tell. Don’t worry about genre or what is currently popular. Let your voice resonate through your writing, and follow that up with getting a second option from a reputable script consultant.
What else are you working on that the world needs to know about? A television pilot and series bible was just completed for an uplifting drama series titled LIFE’S CURVE. It was inspired by my contemporary novel, “Final Request.” Think Beaches, A Walk to Remember, and P. S. I Love You. I also have a time travel romance, a faith-based crime/murder mystery, and drama/sport feature.
