Where do you live (City, State, or Country)? I split my time in Miami, Florida and Toronto, Canada
Your script or media entry stood out among hundreds of others. What was the inspiration for your project ? The idea came from noticing how often people get compared to something familiar instead of being seen on their own terms. Those moments are usually meant as compliments, but over time they can feel strangely erasing. I wanted to explore that tension in a way that was grounded, funny, and just slightly unsettling.
How long did it take you to write your script...and what was your development process? The pilot took a few months and several drafts to land. I tend to start with the concept, then obsess over tone, then rewrite until the characters feel like they’re making the choices instead of me. It’s a very unglamorous process, but it works.
What is your ultimate ambition as a writer or filmmaker? To make work that feels specific, human, and a little uncomfortable in a good way. I’m most interested in stories that sneak up on you emotionally while still being entertaining.
Which film directors or screenwriters inspire you? Why? I’m drawn to writers and filmmakers who make restraint look effortless. The kind of work where nothing feels flashy, but everything is intentional.
What’s your all-time favorite movie or television show? Good Will Hunting. I’m drawn to stories about underestimated people navigating systems that weren’t built for them, especially when the emotional turn comes from being truly seen rather than “fixed.”
What advice do you have for others hoping to win a contest or place as a finalist as you have? Make sure the script knows what it’s about before worrying about how impressive it sounds. Clarity travels farther than cleverness.
What else are you working on that the world needs to know about? A few television and feature projects in development, mostly centered on identity, work, and the quiet ways people cope with pressure.
Where can the world find you? (Website, IMDB, etc.) I don’t have a site etc so the best I can offer is: Dion Aralihalli - FilmFreeway
