Where do you live (City, State, or Country)?
I live in San Diego, CA How did you discover The Palm Springs International Screenplay Awards and how did you decide to enter this contest among all the others? I found the Palm Springs International Screenplay Awards on Film Freeway. I signed up for your competition because I enjoy sharing my work locally. Also, my girlfriend lives in the Palm Springs area, and I love it there. Your script or media entry stood out among hundreds of others. What was the inspiration for your project? My Mother, Dr. Ann Early researched our family history for over two decades. Her goal was to write a book about Sherrod Bryant, who was a free man of color in the antebellum South. He sold himself into indentured servitude and went on to become one of the wealthiest landowners in the South. This is a true story about my great- grandfather, seven generations removed. Unfortunately, my mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2008. During her journey, I became her primary caregiver. She asked me to have her book published, so that’s exactly what I did. Unfortunately, she passed away before I finished the publishing process. Her book, titled “BRYANT ACRES, A love story has been an enormous success, with proceeds going to The Ann Early Intervention Foundation, 501©3 non profit, which focuses on Alzheimer’s research and brain-related illnesses. Since beginning this process, not only have I published Brynat Acres, but I have also written a screenplay and a limited series, called “NO COLOR IN HEAVEN.” Both the screenplay and limited series are based on the book. And in 2026, my plan is to produce and diresct a documentary about Sherrod Bryant’s life. Finally, I’m currently in the process of having her second book, titled “BRYANT ACERES: The Next Generation and Beyond, published. I currently have a film project in the works, but I hope to bring my mother’s dream to the finish line by bringing Sherrod Bryant’s story to the big screen. I’ve been working on these projects since 2018. What is your ultimate ambition as a writer or filmmaker? I’ve been very fortunate to this point. I’ve had two successful sports documentaries made. One of which aired on The Big Ten Network in 2022. I’ve had two narrative films made, both of which were number one in their categories on Viocom. And we are currently in pre-production on one of my new films. Which film directors or screenwriters inspire you? Why? Francis Ford Coppola. His films are iconic and transend time. I also like the fact that he wrote, directed, and produced many of his films. I’m also a big fan of Martin Scorsese. Although he’s not known for writing, he’s an amazing director. What’s your all-time favorite movie or television show? Movies: Goodfellas, The Godfather, Braveheart, Forest Gump. TV: Seinfeld, Peaky Blinders, Saprono’s. What advice do you have for others hoping to win a contest or place as a finalist as you have? I have a passion for film making. My advice: Be passionate about whatever you do in life. When you’re passionate, you tend to put everything you have into whatever you’re passionate about. Never chase money. When you put everything into your passion and have a little talent, then money will come. What else are you working on that the world needs to know about? I wrote a film called, “THE ANGEL OF HARLEM” There are some pretty big stars, currently under wraps, attached to the film. We’re slated to begin filming fall of 2025. Where can the world find you?
