Where do you live (City, State, or Country)? La Quinta, California
Your script or media entry stood out among hundreds of others. What was the inspiration for your project? I was curious about my roots and went to Jalisco, Mexico (Tequila country) and discovered my connection to the agave plant.
How long did it take you to write your script or produce your pitch deck/sizzle reel/trailer...and what was your development process? The script itself took less than a year, including my workshopping it in a master’s screenwriting class at UCLA. The pitch deck is still in development and has taken almost a year.
What is your ultimate ambition as a writer or filmmaker? My ultimate ambition is to see my work on the big screen.
Which film directors or screenwriters inspire you? Why? I love Susanne Bier’s work which addresses the importance of human resilience and dignity, a recurring theme in her films. Director, Patricia Riggen's films center around authentic human experiences that are full of emotion and easily pull at the heartstrings of the audience. Gillermo del Toro loves to blend genres (fairy tales, Gothicism and horror) with an effort to infuse visual or poetic beauty in the grotesque. He is known for pioneering dark fantasy in the film industry and for his use of insectile and religious imagery, his themes of Catholicism and celebrating imperfection with practical special effects.
What’s your all-time favorite movie or television show? I have many: There Will Be Blood, Pans Labyrinth, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Jurassic Park, Sophie’s Choice, but my favorite has to be Out of Africa.
What advice do you have for others hoping to win a contest or place as a finalist as you have? Don’t hesitate to send out your best work all over and in multiple categories. Don’t give up!
What else are you working on that the world needs to know about? I am working on novel/screenplay about a young woman making waves in the Coast Guard. I am also trying to find a home for my 5th novel.
