The lives and history of Dreven, the Vampire, and Amadis, the cannibalistic serial killer, are intertwined. Dreven was blinded in an ambush by Amadis’ ancestors, and Amadis draws an odd strength and identity from his family’s lore of Dreven.
Over time, Amadis refined an especial recipe for human bone broth soup inspired, one epochal night, by the use of his grandfather’s freshly cut leg bones.
Dreven adapts to her blindness by using the senses of other beings, settling on dogs to be her service animals. Dreven’s current dog, Boris, is quick-witted and sarcastic, but does his job as Dreven’s navigator and victim selector.
Amadis, and Dreven cross paths and develop an odd-couple hunting partnership which turns to conflict when Dreven develops an affection for a cancer-stricken boy, Dean, and his father, John, who are survivors of a previous Amadis’ attack. Dreven and Amadis come to contretemps.
Dreven’s affection for Dean leads her to develop a romantic relationship with John, and she becomes fiercely defensive of them.
Having trailed Dreven, John and Dean to a carnival, Amadis lures John and Dean into a tent – one used for fireworks storage. Dreven and Amadis fight a titanic battle which results in igniting the fireworks. Amadis injures John and appears to mortally wound Dean, but Dreven drips some of her blood into Dean’s mouth, to heal him.
As the tent is consumed by fire, Boris pulls John and the unconscious Dean free, while Dreven and Amadis battle. A firework's fireball appears to consume Amadis, but Dreven Escapes.
At the hospital, John has recovered from his injuries, but Dean is still unconscious. Dreven explains to John that Dean will be fine and, in the process, admits to being a Vampire.
John rejects Dreven, for being a killer, and moves to protect Dean. While Dreven and John argues, Dean wakes up, having turned into a vampire. Dean and Dreven spar with vampire powers – after all, Dean has Dreven’s capabilities – and ultimately Dean convinces Boris to stay behind and help him and his father. Boris joins them and Dreven leaves, having lost everything – her love interest, the boy for whom she developed affection, and her service dog, Boris.
